On August 23, 2004, West Michigan Lutheran High School opened its doors for the first academic year. This event was the culmination of four years of work by many people in the Grand Rapids area.
The school year began with six freshmen and four sophomores. In the next two years, the school has expanded a grade each year. In 2007, West Michigan Lutheran High School celebrated its first graduation. Our current enrollment for 2008-2009 is 45 students.
The high school’s start-up location is in the upper level of St. Mark Lutheran Elementary School. This facility provides three classrooms, an office, a gymnasium, lunchroom, and a worship area.
The Board of Directors has identified a site for our permanent location at 64th and Byron Center. Plans are underway to begin a capital campaign that will allow us to build a permanent building at this location in the near future. We thank God for the many blessings He has showered upon us, and pray that He will continue to bless this ministry.
I encourage all students entering the ninth or tenth grade this fall to spend a day with us. You will get a first-hand taste of what a Lutheran Christian education offers, and why the faculty, students, and Board of Directors are so excited about this ministry. Call the office today to schedule a visit. I hope to hear from you soon.
In Christ’s Service,
